Beginning Pastel: Techniques & Composition

This four-week class is perfect for beginners and will introduce you to the essentials of working with pastels. We’ll start with a guided introduction to materials—types of pastels, papers, blending tools, etc—and move into fundamental techniques like creating an. underpainting, layering, and blending. You’ll explore basic color theory, learn how to apply colors effectively, and build confidence with classic methods.

Each session includes hands-on practice, demonstrations, and personalized feedback to help you develop your skills and creative voice. No prior experience needed—just curiosity and a willingness to experiment!
